In these tasks, Coast Guard vessels often have to chase a suspicious ship or run side-by-side with it and this operation always has a risk of a collision. In order to maintain a safe Coast Guard operation, it is important for Coast Guard officer to understand the ship-to-ship interaction between two ships in close proximity.
