          <datacite:description descriptionType="Abstract">Abstract
   By using a continuous-wave mutimode laser diode (cw-MLD) and a photoconductive antenna (PA), we can generate an electromagnetic radiation in the sub-THz region (sub-THz radiation).   For the spectroscopy, the signal spectrum should be continuous.   That may be achieved by using a broad-area laser diode (BLD) , because the BLD shows a quasi-continuous spectrum of light, which will cause optical beat with a quasi-continuous spectrum.   However, the magnitude of the continuous components in the signal spectrum depends on the adjustments of the experimental setup, such as defocusing the BLD beam on the PA and using the BLD beam after transmission through a single-mode optical fiber.
   In this paper, we perform quantitative estimations of magnitude of the continuous components and compare it with the experimental results.   The results show that the  appearance or disappearance of the continuous components is explained by considering the mixing of light components with various beam patterns and the distribution of the phases of the light components.   Further we discuss how we should treat the BLD beam when we apply it to the time-resolved spectroscopic measurement.</datacite:description>
